PRO-Active

Enough of you are writing in concerning my previous post to make me second guess myself. My natural predisposition is to assume that everything will work out fine in the end. I'm quickly learning that those days are long gone.

I'll talk it over with Annie this weekend and make sure Ian is getting what is the absolute best for him. Thanks everyone for your comments and for helping a dad get off his duff and being a little more proactive.

Tom, My personallity and the way I do things had me believe others would give my daughter what was the best for her. After talking to others and experiencing it myself in KY and CT I found out many of the programs seem to give what is in their rights but you will need to fight for more. In the end it is about money. We have had a many great therapist and I have worked hard at getting to know them. They are not the ones who make the final decission but their recomendations play a big part in what your child gets. In the end, having a good relationship with them helps get your child more services. If you want to e-mail me we can talk more about my experiences. As a stay at home father, this has been my full time job. I have networked with others in trying to figure out how the system works. My e-mail is on my profile.

Email me and I can help walk you through the Minnesota system. Don't worry, you're learning. Most of the time districts aren't out to "cheat" the kids. But I know plenty of situations in the metro area where it DOES happen. Even in the best districts in the state. The trick, as a parent, is to figure out when it's happening when this is all brand new to you.

Just been catching up on your last half a dozen blog posts. I had ever intention of coming by earlier, but life got in the way again.

Not sure I can add anything constructive, but I'm with you on the chocolate...

I was away all day and I gotta' say before even reading any comments to the last post I was thinking "Hmmm, you might want to look into that."

I think the "difficulty catching up" thing is true. Good luck navigating all that. And hope that's not too much of a bummer.

Steve: Man, you're moving around the country as much as I have. :) Hadn't thought of the relationship part (with therapist). So much to consider, it's overwhelming at times. I'll shoot over an email once Annie and chat a bit this weekend.

Leah: I'll definitely be picking your brain for navigating the system here in MN. Thanks!

Kim: Hope this next week brings some rest..

Tricia: It's been good hearing from different parents... and am trying to learn to listen to that little voice in my head ... no, not THAT voice... ahh, yes, that one. :)
