PT

The term "PT" still gives me the shivers. Back in my teens when I was in Uncle Sam's Service, the drill sergeant would wake us at 5am by banging on a garbage can lid with his long black MAGlite for a few hours of PT (Physical Training).

So when I heard Ian had to start PT, I started digging through my closet, looking for a flashlight.

He had his first physical therapy session on Monday. The therapist said that developmentally he's on par with children sans Down syndrome. But she was a little concerned about his hearing. When the therapist made various noises, Ian responded by becoming very still. It may just be his natural disposition to freeze up to try to analyze the noise or it may be that he's struggling to hear it. He passed his hearing test when he was a few days old, but I think we should order another one. Just to be safe.

So I suppose we're about to join the ranks of the few, the proud, the parents who get to watch a stranger twist their children like a pretzel once a week.

This is the first year since Gabi was born that she didn't need PT. I think it's a great achievement.

I hope everything is okay with Ian's hearing. Maybe she just sounded strange because he doesn't know her voice.

Glad to hear he is doing well.
And please keep us posted on the hearing. You remain close to our thoughts and prayers, as always.

It's crazy, this world isn't it? You just get adjusted to one idea and a whole new one lambasts you. Just found out my granddaughter needs glasses. She's one. Gracious.

PT is awesome! At least I think so, but Ben really isn't a big fan.
;)
Our therapist has helped him (and us) so much.
Hope the repeat hearing test is OK.

You know, Chase didn't really respond that well to the jingly-rattle-y PT evaluation things, either. I think he just takes his time in responding. Maybe that's Ian's deal, too.

PT is good. Just don't wake him up before dawn to do it :)

Welcome to the therapy world. It was a whole new childrearing experience for us too but I have to admit, it really does wonders. Dylan has made big leaps with all of this therapy...SLP (Speech), PT, OT...but I agree with Laurie. Don't do it before dawn.

Shannon: Congrats on Gabi's success... here's hoping Ian can follow her example!

Isabel: You'll HEAR it HERE first. :)

Carole: I'm thinking we should have our doctor over for supper... we'll be spending a lot of time with her.

Karen: I'll take your word for it... and thanks. I'll let you know if Ian is enthused about his new "yoga" positions.

Laurie: That's what we're thinking, that Ian is just trying to analyze the source of the noise. We'll keep you posted... and no worries about any crack of dawn PT sessions; the early bird gets the worm, but Denny's is open 24 hours.

Kristy: I'll have to read around a bit on people's blogs so I can compare PT stories... and see my answer to Laurie about early mornings. :)
