The Kids and I

This morning Annie went out with a group of moms from the local Down syndrome chapter; there were eleven of them and, after the initial awkward "Hi, I'm Annie and I'm the new person" introductions, she had some good talks with the women. They meet once a month.

I took Silvi and Ian downtown to race around the skyways. For those unfamiliar with Minneapolis, the entire downtown area is connected via a maze of bridges that run from building to building, a system of skyways that are over five-miles long. Plenty of room for a toddler to run on a cold January morning. The weekends are best, especially Saturdays, because the crowds are significantly smaller without the downtown workforce milling around.

I chased Silvi with Ian in his stroller, who was trying to catch a few winks between screeches of joy from his big sister. We wandered through the heart of the skyway system - the IDS center court - and stopped for a latte, hot chocolate and pastries.

As Silvi sat in her comfy chair, guzzling her drink and inhaling her muffin, she looked so, well, grown up. She'll be doing this on her own in no time. I just love the fact that she enjoys our little outings together so much.

I can't say for sure, but I think she'll like exploring new places as much as her dad does.

Looks like such a fun morning! Love the photos.

My husband's family, his mother's side, is from Hudson, Wisconsin. Ring a bell?

There's nothing like a new baby in the house to make your previous youngest look grown up :)

Anne: Never been there but a guy at work is from there...

Kim: That's what my wife says about me, but I'm not quite what she's getting at.. :)

Silvi's face looks really wise and kind. Ian looks like he's going to worship Silvi.

What a great idea! Do you pass a lot of other parents doing the same? Those skyways should be a la for any city in the north. Glad you and Annie could both have some good times.

I told my mom about your mom's surgery. Her computer is wacked right now. We continue to pray for you all. Love,
Elsie

She looks so grown up. It's weird isn't it, when you have those moments when they seem all the sudden to have become old.
She looks like a very proud and pleased beg sister.

Precious-simply precious pictures!!

My DP went to school in Minneapolis, and her family lives in WI . . .

Photos are great and it seems like a very good time was had by all.

It is good to notice that Silvi will be all grown up in about two seconds because that is what will happen. So have the fun times and take the pictures. You will not regret it.

See? I can ride my motorcycle almost anywhere, but I would get totally lost in the downtown skyway system. Hmmm...maybe one day Angela and I will give it a try.

Oh, and Tom, you would LOVE historic Hudson. I'm down there every week. It's only 1/2 hr away from you.

And yes, they do grow up very fast, and having another baby seems to speed up the process somehow. I can't believe my "baby" is almost 12. Hmmm...makes me feel old as well.

Tom, I can't help noticing how much Silvi looks like you, especially in the pic where she's hugging her drink cup.

Terri: I just love Silvi's personality and how it comes out in some of the pictures I've taken; and I think Ian was watching his big sister carefully that morning. She gives lots of rough love.

Elsie: Not a lot of parents out; most head to the malls in the suburbs... and thanks.

Isabel: I think she and Ian will be the best of friends...

Terri: Thanks! I like presents.

Beans: Thanks... not sure what a DP is (or who a DP is), but MN a nice place two months out of the year. :)

Carole: I try to make a memory a day. (I should write greeting cards, eh) :)

Leah: As soon as it warms up, I'll have to make a trip to Hudson. I've always headed north along the St. Croix for weekends out.

And you should check the skyways out in the winter. Just rent the film The Mighty Ducks and you'll learn your way around. (They shot some of the movie in the skyways.) :)

Noel: And she's the splitting image of my mom when she was that age... guess those Scottish genes are strong in the family. :)
